Set a playlist expiration date

About This Feature​

Set an expiration date on a playlist and it becomes unviewable after that date — useful for time-boxed campaigns, deal cycles, or content whose accuracy has a shelf life. Viewers who follow the link after expiry are shown a blocked message instead of the playlist.

Set an Expiration Date​

  1. Open the playlist in edit mode.
  2. Open the Settings panel (right side of the editor).
  3. Under Expiration date, pick a date. The playlist stops loading at midnight (viewer's local time) on the date you pick.
  4. Save. The date takes effect immediately — no publish step required.

To clear the date, open the same row and remove it. The playlist becomes viewable again for anyone with the link.

What Viewers See After Expiration​

Once the date has passed, opening the playlist link shows a blocked reason message instead of the playlist itself. Viewers cannot bypass it by refreshing or by using a saved link. Admins with access to the workspace can still open the playlist inside the app to update or extend it.

Analytics on views that happened before expiration are preserved and continue to appear in playlist insights.

Extending or Removing an Expiration​

Open the playlist's settings again and either:

  • Pick a new later date, or
  • Clear the date entirely.

The playlist becomes viewable again as soon as you save — no need to republish.

FAQs​

Does the expiration date apply to embedded playlists? Yes. Any embed of the playlist stops loading at expiry, regardless of where it is embedded.

Can I set an expiration date on individual demos inside a playlist? No — expiration is a per-playlist setting. Time-boxing individual demos is not currently supported.

Do owners and colleagues get blocked too? Logged-in Walnut users from the owning workspace can still open the playlist through the app to edit or extend it. Public share links stop working for everyone once the date passes.
