Control who can view a playlist or deal room
Limit a playlist or deal room to anyone with the link, specific viewers, or no one; allow or block emails and domains; add an access code; and verify viewer emails once at the playlist gate.
Control who can view a playlist or deal room
Every playlist and deal room has its own access settings. Use them to decide who can open the link, add an access code, and make viewers prove their email address.
Snapshot 📸
Applies to: Playlists and deal rooms
Location: Playlist or deal room editor → Settings (gear icon in the top bar)
Choose who can access it
- Open the playlist or deal room in the editor.
- Click the gear icon in the top bar to open Settings.
- Under Who can access the playlist? (or deal room), choose:
| Option | Who can view |
|---|---|
| Anyone with this link | Anyone who has the link |
| Specific viewers | Only the emails and domains you allow, or everyone except the ones you block |
| No access | No one. Use this to switch off a link you've already shared. |
Allow or block specific viewers
- Under Who can access, choose Specific viewers.
- Click Add specific viewer permissions to open Viewer Permissions.
- Choose one:
- Allow specific viewers: only the email addresses or domains you enter can view.
- Block specific viewers: everyone can view except the email addresses or domains you enter.
- Enter an email address (
name@company.com) or a whole domain (@company.com), then click Allow or Block. You can also paste a list, or upload a CSV file.
The list has a search box and filters for Emails, Domains, and entries that Need review. Clear List removes every entry.
Personal email addresses, such as Gmail addresses, can't be added to the list.
Add an access code
- In Settings, turn on Playlist access code (or Deal Room access code).
- Type a code of 6 to 255 characters. Codes are case-sensitive.
- Click Copy to copy the code and share it with your viewers separately from the link.
Viewers see an Access code required screen and must enter the code before they can view.
Verify viewer emails
Email Verification makes viewers prove they own the address they enter, by clicking a link Walnut emails them.
- In Settings, turn on Collect viewers email and choose Required.
- Check Email Verification.
What viewers experience:
- They enter their email at the gate.
- They see Check your email and receive a verification link. The link works once and expires after 15 minutes.
- Opening the link takes them into the playlist or deal room. If they don't get the email, they can click Resend link after a short wait, or Use a different email.
Viewers verify once. Verifying at the playlist gate covers every demo inside the playlist, so viewers aren't asked again for each demo.
Signed-in Walnut users with a confirmed account skip the email step when their address matches.
:::note Embedded playlists Viewers can't finish verification inside an embedded playlist. They're prompted to open it in a new tab. :::
If your company enforces Email Verification, the checkbox is already checked and can't be turned off.
How the checks work together
If you use more than one setting, Walnut checks the allow or block list first. A blocked viewer is stopped before any email verification step.
To make a playlist or deal room stop working after a date, see Set an expiration date for a playlist.
FAQs
Can I lock a single page of a deal room instead of the whole room?
Yes. See Control who can see each page in a Deal Room.
Is the access code shown anywhere to viewers?
No. Share it with your viewers yourself, for example in your email or message, separately from the link.
