Improve with AI — rewrite annotation text

Overview

Improve with AI is an inline text-writer that lives on your guide-step annotations. When you're editing a guide step and want to tighten the copy, punch up the tone, or start from a rough sentence you'd rather not ship, click Improve with AI on the annotation's property panel and Walnut rewrites the text in place.

It replaces the older docked "Nutty" panel with a compact popover attached to the annotation you're editing, so you don't lose your place in the flow.

Before You Start

  • AI must be enabled for your workspace. Turn it on from AI Control Center → Settings → Enable AI feature access.
  • Improve with AI is being rolled out gradually. If you don't see the pill, reach out to your Walnut CSM.

Rewrite Guide Text

  1. In the editor, open a guide step's annotation.
  2. Click the Improve with AI pill on the annotation property panel (it has a subtle gradient outline so it's easy to spot).
  3. In the popover, either:
    • Click a preset action (e.g. Refine existing), or
    • Type free-form instructions — for example, "make this shorter" or "match the tone of the earlier steps."
  4. Walnut generates a rewrite. Review it in the popover.
  5. Keep this to apply the rewrite to the annotation, or dismiss the popover to leave the original text unchanged.

The popover holds until you either keep or dismiss; edits are never applied silently.

What It's Good At

  • Tightening long or wordy steps
  • Adjusting tone (friendlier, more technical, punchier)
  • Fixing awkward phrasing
  • Adapting a first-draft sentence to your product voice

FAQs

Does Improve with AI work in dark mode?

Yes. The popover and its inputs render correctly in both light and dark themes.

Can I undo an "Improve with AI" rewrite?

Yes. The rewrite is applied like any other text edit, so standard Undo reverts it.

Does it use my company's brand voice?

Improve with AI reads from the shared Knowledge & context configured in the AI Control Center. Add your brand-voice guidance there and every AI feature (including Improve with AI) will pick it up.
