Edit a specific element with AI (pinned prompt target)

About This Feature​

Edit with AI lets you point Walnut's AI Mode at one specific element on a screen — a button, a heading, a table cell, an image — and describe the change you want in natural language. AI Mode edits that element (and only that element), so a prompt like "make this button blue" changes exactly the button you picked, not everything blue on the screen.

Pin an element to the AI chat​

  1. In the editor, click the element you want to change.
  2. In the property panel that opens, click Edit with AI on the action bar.
  3. The AI Mode chat opens with that element pinned — a card at the top of the composer previews the element, and a ring appears around it on the canvas so you can see exactly what the AI is about to edit.
  4. Type your instruction and press Enter.

Because the element is pinned, the composer's default prompt suggestions are hidden while you focus on it. Unpin the element to return to open‑ended prompts.

What the AI can edit​

AI Mode's pinned‑element edits target the element's own content and styling, for example:

  • Change text, tone, or language ("make this shorter", "rewrite this in French").
  • Change colors, size, alignment, or emphasis ("make this red", "bold this label").
  • Swap an image for a related one, or convert an image into an interactive element.

The AI sends the pinned element to the model as the prompt target, so its scope is deliberately narrow — a prompt that would otherwise ask "which button?" now has a definite answer.

Two ways to open Edit with AI​

  • Property panel action bar — the Edit with AI icon on the selected element's floating action bar. Hover for the tooltip label.
  • More actions menu — open the ⋯ menu on the element and choose Edit with AI.

Both entry points open the AI Mode chat with the same element pinned.

Unpinning and re‑pinning​

  • Clicking the ✕ on the pinned element card unpins it. The next prompt applies at the current scope (screen or demo).
  • Selecting a different element and clicking Edit with AI again re‑pins to the new element.
  • Mid‑conversation, a re‑pin overrides an earlier subject — the AI treats the newly pinned element as the new focus.

FAQs​

Do I have to pin an element to use AI Mode? No. Pinning is optional — AI Mode still works on the whole screen or demo. Pinning is for when you want a targeted edit.

Can I pin more than one element? No. Edit with AI targets a single element. To touch several elements at once, use a screen‑ or demo‑wide prompt instead.

Does Edit with AI work on Figma‑imported screens? Yes — any selectable element on the canvas can be pinned, regardless of how the screen was captured.
