Import PowerPoint slides and PDF pages as screens

Overview​

Import a PowerPoint deck (.pptx) or a PDF directly into a Walnut demo. Each slide or page lands as a fully editable Walnut screen — ready for guides, sticky notes, annotations, and personalization — with no manual capture and no need to export the deck to images first.

Two things to know up front:

  • The import flow is the same one Figma import uses. Pick a source (Figma URL, PowerPoint file, or PDF file), review the list of frames/slides/pages Walnut resolved, and pick which ones to bring in.
  • You can import a single slide or bulk-import the whole deck at once. Slides keep the aspect ratio and geometry PowerPoint laid them out at.

Import Slides or Pages Into a Demo​

Import happens inside a demo's editor, via AI Mode.

  1. Open a demo (or create a new one) and open AI Mode.
  2. In the import entry point, choose PowerPoint (or PDF) as the source and upload the file.
  3. Walnut converts the deck and shows a reviewable list of slides (or pages), each with a thumbnail.
  4. Pick the slides/pages you want to bring in.
  5. Pick a target section for the imported screens — either an existing section in the demo, or create a new section in place.
  6. Confirm the import. Walnut converts each slide to a Walnut screen, one at a time, with per-slide progress you can watch.
  7. When the first screen is ready, Walnut opens it in the editor so you can start working immediately while the rest of the batch finishes in the background.

Slides arrive with the geometry PowerPoint put them at — Walnut doesn't re-flow the layout, so what your deck looked like in PowerPoint is what you get on the canvas.

Edit Imported Slides Like Any Other Walnut Screen​

Once imported, a PowerPoint- or PDF-sourced screen behaves exactly like a captured screen:

  • Add guides and annotations to walk viewers through it.
  • Attach sticky notes for internal reviewers.
  • Personalize with variables (text, image, dates).
  • Convert images to interactive elements where you want click/hover behavior.
  • Style, translate, and version-control it alongside product-captured screens.

You can mix and match freely inside a single demo — some sections from PowerPoint, some from Figma, some from live capture.

FAQs​

What file types are supported?​

PowerPoint (.pptx) decks and PDF documents. Legacy .ppt binaries are not supported — save the deck as .pptx first.

Do I need Microsoft PowerPoint installed?​

No. The conversion happens server-side. You upload the file from the editor and Walnut takes it from there.

Does PowerPoint or PDF import cost AI credits?​

Import runs through AI Mode. Track your usage in AI Control Center → Usage.

What if I want to re-import a slide after editing the deck?​

Upload the file again. You can import into a new section to compare, or into the same section to layer the update alongside the previous screen.

Can I import just a few slides from a large deck?​

Yes — the reviewable slide list lets you pick individual slides before you confirm the import.
