Deal Room version history

About This Feature

Version history gives every Deal Room a timeline of whole-room snapshots you can preview, restore, or branch into a new room. It's the same history panel the demo template editor uses, so if you already know Version Control for demo templates, this will feel familiar.

The important difference from a document's undo: restoring affects your draft, not the live room. What your buyers see changes on your next publish and not a moment before.

When a Version Is Captured

Walnut writes a snapshot of the whole room at three moments:

• Published — every time you publish the Deal Room
• Session end — an automatic checkpoint when you finish an editing session
• Before restore — taken automatically just before you restore, so a restore is always undoable

Autosave does not create versions. Autosave fires every couple of seconds while you work; capturing each one would bury the list in noise.

A snapshot someone deliberately named shows as Checkpoint; an automatic end-of-session one shows as Session end.

Quick Start Guide

1. Open version history

In the Deal Room editor, click the "Last edited …" line in the top bar. The history panel opens with versions grouped by day, newest first.

2. Preview a version

Click any row to load that version's content into the canvas. You're looking at a frozen copy — nothing you click changes it, and your draft is untouched while you browse.

Current version at the top of the list is your live draft. Select it to get back to where you started.

3. Restore or branch

With a version selected you have two actions:

• Restore — replaces your draft with this version's content. The published Deal Room your buyers see is unchanged until you publish again.
• Make a copy — creates a brand-new Deal Room from this version, named Copy of [room name]. The room you're in is left completely alone.

4. Exit

Click Exit version history to drop back into the editor on your current draft.

Undoing a Restore

You don't need to remember what you had. Walnut checkpoints your draft on the way into a restore, labelled Before restore — so to undo a restore, open version history again and restore the Before restore entry that sits just above it.

Publishing After a Restore

Restoring only moves your draft. To put a restored version in front of your buyers, publish the Deal Room as you normally would.

That separation is deliberate: it means you can restore an old version to check something, decide against it, and restore back — all without a buyer ever seeing the room flicker between states.

FAQs

Does restoring an old version delete the newer ones? No. Nothing is removed from the timeline. The version you restored from is still there, and so is the automatic Before restore checkpoint.

Will my buyers see the room change when I restore? No. Restoring touches the draft only. They see the last published version until you publish again.

Does "Make a copy" affect the original room? No. It creates a separate Deal Room from that snapshot — including its CRM connection status, sharing settings, and analytics, which all start fresh on the copy.

Why can't I find a version from a specific edit I made? Versions are captured on publish, at session end, and before a restore — not on every autosave. If an edit was made and undone inside one session, it may not have its own snapshot.

Who can restore a version? Anyone with edit access to the Deal Room — Admin or Editor.

I opened history and it says nothing has changed. That message ("Your draft hasn't changed. Pick another version, or exit to go back to it.") means the version you selected is identical to your current draft. Pick a different row, or exit.
