Search your library by meaning from the homepage
Overview
The homepage composer — the "What would you like to get done today?" box on your Home screen — lets you reach into your library mid-sentence. Type # followed by what you are looking for, and a preview panel opens underneath the box with the matching demos, templates, playlists, and deal rooms ranked by meaning, not just by name.
Use it to find something quickly, or to point a request at a specific item in your library ("summarize #Acme onboarding", "turn #Velocity dashboards into a deal room").
Open the library preview with #
- On the Walnut homepage, click into the composer.
- Type
#at the start of a word, followed by at least one more character. - The In your library panel opens under the composer with up to 12 matches.
The mention can be more than one word — #acme onboarding walkthrough is treated as a single lookup — up to about six words. A line break, a second #, or six words of filler end the mention and close the panel.
The placeholder in the composer field reminds you of the shortcut:
Create a demo, find a template, organise your library — # to search it…
What the panel shows
Each row carries:
- The item's type icon, in the same colour the gallery card uses — templates in purple, demos, playlists, and deal rooms each in their own colour.
- The item's name.
- A meta line of
owner · last edited · size, matching what the library's own cards show. Items without a particular field (a deal room has no screen count, for example) simply omit that part. - A type chip on the right (Template, Demo, Playlist, Deal room).
The header line reads In your library · Matches for "↑↓ to pick — on the right.
A See all in Library action in the footer opens the full library filtered by the same term, if you want to keep browsing beyond the preview.
Semantic ranking
Short lookups (one or two words — "byok", "acme onboarding") are ranked lexically: the preview looks for items whose name, description, tags, or summary contain the words you typed, with name matches winning.
Longer, sentence-shaped queries (around six words or more) are ranked semantically: the preview matches items by what they are about, using each demo's AI-generated summary, so a request like "reporting dashboard for a mid-market prospect" surfaces the templates that actually fit — even when none of your words appear in their names.
Ranking happens across your whole library in one pass. The preview returns a single page of the best matches; use See all in Library to see everything.
Keyboard shortcuts
Inside the preview, your caret stays in the composer so you can keep typing:
- ↓ / ↑ — move the selection through the list. Nothing is selected until you press an arrow key, so pressing Enter before you pick a row still sends your request.
- Enter on a selected row — adds the item to your sentence as a chip (for a
#mention) and the request is still what gets sent when you submit. - Esc — close the preview. The next keystroke brings it back.
The footer's hint updates as you move the selection: ↵ sends your request when nothing is picked, ↵ adds it to your request when a row is highlighted.
Where results come from
The preview searches your library — the demos, templates, playlists, and deal rooms you can access in your account. Permissions are respected: a row only appears in the preview if you can open it in the library itself.
