Dark mode

Updated Jul 14, 2026

Dark mode

Walnut now supports dark mode — a per-user color scheme you can switch on whenever you prefer a darker interface. Your choice is saved to your account and follows you across the Walnut app, so you only set it once.

Overview

Dark mode is a personal display preference. It changes how the Walnut interface looks for you only — it does not affect your teammates, your company's brand settings, or anything your viewers see.

You can choose between three options:

  • Light — the classic light interface.
  • System — automatically follows your operating system's light or dark setting.
  • Dark — a darker interface that's easier on the eyes in low-light environments.

Turn On Dark Mode

  1. Click your avatar in the top corner to open the profile menu.
  2. Find the Appearance section.
  3. Use the Light / System / Dark control to choose your preference.

Your selection applies immediately and is saved to your account. The same control is also available inside the profile modal, so you can change it from either place.

What Dark Mode Covers

When dark mode is on, it applies across the Walnut product surfaces, including:

  • The main app chrome (navigation, menus, and panels)
  • The demo editor
  • Settings
  • The demo center
  • The player
  • Integrations
  • Insights, including charts

What stays unchanged

Dark mode deliberately does not re-theme your content. The following always appear exactly as they were authored, regardless of your color scheme:

  • Screen captures
  • Brand previews
  • Rendered demo and playlist content

This keeps what you and your viewers see consistent with how the demo was actually built.

Defaults

  • New users start on Light by default.
  • Existing users keep whatever setting they had before dark mode became available.

You can change your preference at any time from the profile menu.
