Navigating the Walnut app
Overview
Every main page in Walnut shares the same three-part frame: a left rail for moving between product areas, a top bar that names the current screen and holds its actions, and a side panel between the two that carries the screen's search, sections, and filters.
The frame stays consistent across the app, so the same gesture always lands in the same place — the area picker on the left, the screen's actions on top, and everything that narrows what you are looking at in the panel.
The left rail
The rail runs down the left edge of the app and lists Walnut's main areas — Home, the library, Deals, Integrations, the AI center, Insights, Company settings, and any others enabled for your workspace. The active area is highlighted; role, plan and integration gating decide which rows appear for you.
Collapse and expand. A chevron at the top of the rail collapses it to an icon-only strip and expands it back. The expanded rail shows the Walnut wordmark and each area's label; the collapsed rail keeps the icons alone.
Help. Above the account footer, a Help row opens the help menu — Get Started, Help Center, What's New, Contact Support, System Status, and the admin console for admins.
Account footer. The foot of the rail carries your avatar. Clicking it opens the account menu, with Profile settings, an appearance picker (Light / System / Dark), Company settings, Invite teammate, and Sign out. Admins reaching the invite limit are taken to the unlock flow instead of the invite modal.
The top bar
The top bar sits above the panel and the content column. It shows the current screen's title on the left and its actions on the right — the buttons that write to what the screen is showing.
On Company settings, for example, the top bar holds Save Changes and Discard for the active tab, together with an inline count ("1 unsaved change" / "N unsaved changes") beside them. Discard returns the tab's fields to what was last loaded without a network call, and keeps you on the same tab and scroll position. On the AI center, the tab's own Save changes button and its hint move up to the top bar in the same way.
The side panel
The side panel sits between the rail and the page content. It draws only the parts a screen actually declares — a screen with nothing to narrow (Home, Integrations) shows no panel at all and the content takes the full width.
The panel can carry any combination of these blocks:
Search
A search field at the top of the panel, positioned the same way on every screen that has one.
Two kinds of search share the slot:
- A jump-to search that indexes the areas and controls on the screen — for example Search settings on Company settings, which lists each setting with its current value ("Email verification — On", "Guides font size — 14px") and jumps you to the card that owns it, and Search AI settings on the AI center, which lists the center's own areas.
- A content query that filters the rows the screen is showing — used by the list screens (the library, Deals, and so on).
Sections
The screen's own sections, listed as rows. On Company settings the rows are the pages (Account settings, Brand style, Users, Groups, Webhooks); the row for the page you are on expands to show the cards inside it as indented sub-rows, and clicking one scrolls the page to that card. Clicking the page row again folds the sub-rows away.
A row can carry a caption above it grouping related rows ("Folders", "Sections", "Views"), a count on the right, and hover actions — deleting a saved view, for example.
Filters
Filters live in the panel as a stack of collapsible rows. Each row shows its own current value on the collapsed form, so a long filter list stays readable without a separate dropdown.
Rows come in a few shapes:
- Options — pick one (Type, Review status).
- Multi-options — pick several with checkboxes (Tags, where each row carries the tag's colour swatch and its lifetime count).
- Range — numeric from/to (for example a Deal Amount).
- Options with a custom picker — a preset list plus, for example, a custom date range on Deals' close date.
A neutral option ("All items", "Any status", "Any time") shows nothing in the row's value and does not count toward the active-filter total. Clear all returns every row to its neutral state in one write.
The library screens list, among others, Type (Storyline / Demo / Playlist / Deal room), Tags, Review status (when editorial review is enabled for the account), Favorites (All items / Favorites only), Archived (Hide archived / Archived only), and Company files for admins (Shared with me / All company files).
Saved views (Deals)
On Deals, the panel carries saved views below the filters — named combinations of the current filter set that you can jump back to. Each view is a row in the panel, and hover actions let you manage it. Filter combinations save as URLs, so a filtered view is linkable and shareable.
Order
On the list screens — the library, My library, Shared library, the Resource hub, Deals, Insights — the filters sit above the sections, so they stay reachable over a long folder list. Everywhere else, sections come first.
