About This Feature

The Video Overlay feature adds a personal video layer to guide steps in guided demos, allowing creators to appear on-screen as they walk through their product. Video Overlay brings a more human, dynamic element to demos — boosting engagement, enhancing storytelling, and helping build stronger connections with your audience.

Quick Start Guide

  1. Click on a guide step in the Guides panel on the right side of the Walnut Editor to activate the step editor toolbar.

  2. Click the video camera icon in the step editor toolbar and select Add video clip to this step.

  3. When prompted, allow the browser to access your camera and microphone.

  4. A video bubble preview and recording toolbar will appear in the Walnut Editor. Click Let's Go! or Start Recording to begin recording a video overlay for your selected guide step.

  5. Click Pause during recording or Stop Recording when finished.

  6. Use the video overlay editor toolbar to preview, resize, reposition, remove, or re-record your video. Click Done to save and attach the video to the selected step.

  7. To make changes to an existing recording, click a guide step in the Guides panel and click the video camera icon in the guide step editor.

FAQs

Can I move a video overlay to a different guide step?

  • Not at this time. Video overlays are fixed to the guide step they were recorded on and cannot be moved to another step.

Can I import pre-recorded video files into the Video Overlay feature?

  • No. Video files cannot be imported. All video overlays must be recorded directly within the Walnut Editor.

Can I use video overlays in non-guided demos?

  • No. Video overlays are only supported in guided demos that include guide steps. They cannot be added to non-guided demos.

Do video overlays need to be attached to guide steps?

  • Yes. Every video overlay must be linked to a specific guide step in the demo.
