Why integrate Walnut with Zapier?

This integration eliminates the need for custom development work while expanding your ability to utilize Walnut's valuable engagement insights across your entire GTM toolkit. Zapier helps bridge the gap with your favorite tools through a no-code approach.

Before you start

Before setting up the Zapier integration, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • You have an active Walnut account with admin privileges
  • You have a Zapier account (free or paid, depending on your automation needs)
  • You have access to the GTM tools you want to connect with Walnut

Note: Some GTM tools may require specific Zapier plans for integration

How it works

The setup is entirely code-less  and does not require development work .

To set up the integration, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Zapier account
  2. Search for Walnut in the Zapier app directory
  3. Select from available Walnut engagement data triggers
  4. Connect your Walnut account when prompted
  5. Choose your target GTM tool as the action step
  6. Map Walnut engagement data fields to your GTM tool's requirements
  7. Test and activate your workflow

Important to note

  • This integration focuses specifically on pushing engagement data from Walnut to GTM tools
  • Data flows one way (from Walnut to GTM tools) in this phase
  • You can create multiple workflows to send the same data to different GTM tools
  • Data mapping is flexible and can be customized based on each GTM tool requirements
  • Historical engagement data cannot be pushed through newly created Zaps

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with the engagement data integration, try these common solutions:

Data not flowing to GTM tool:

  1. Verify that the Walnut trigger is correctly configured
  2. Check field mapping between Walnut and your GTM tool
  3. Ensure all required fields in your GTM tool are mapped
  4. Confirm your Zap is turned on both on the Zapier side, and in the Webhooks configuration screen in the Walnut settings interface. 

Missing engagement data:

  1. Review the engagement metrics you've selected to push
  2. Check if the engagement events are actually occurring
  3. Verify that your GTM tool can accept the data format being sent

Field mapping issues:

  1. Double-check field type compatibility
  2. Ensure required fields are not left empty
  3. Verify custom field names match exactly

Common Error Messages:

  • "Invalid Field Mapping": Review field compatibility between Walnut and your GTM tool
  • "Missing Required Field": Ensure all necessary engagement data points are mapped
  • "Rate Limit Exceeded": Check your Zapier plan limits
