Create smart objects

About

Smart Objects are a live demo’s best friend. With smart objects, you can apply the same edit across multiple screens with just one edit. This saves a huge amount of time and ensures consistency. Use the smart object feature when you want to change:

  • Navigations
  • Text settings
  • An image
  • Links to an external screen

Create smart objects

Before you start:

  • When you create a smart object, the settings applied to that smart object apply to all similar elements on other screens. This means that if the other elements already have settings applied, those settings are overridden by the settings of the smart object.

> To create a smart object from an existing element:

  1. Click an element. This opens the Guide toolbar in the screen header. From the header, click the Smart Object icon (or use the shortcut Ctrl+G).

  2. At the next screen, enter a name for the smart object and click Create Smart Object. A validation message appears.
  3. To apply to more screens, click Apply to more screens, or click Skip if you don’t want to apply it to other screens just yet..
  4. When you select Apply to more screens, Walnut applies the changes behind the scenes and removes other previous element settings.
  5. When you see the success message, click Got it to complete the workflow.
  6. The Smart Object icon shows on all screens with that element.

Edit or review smart objects

There are two ways to edit or review the details of the smart object.

1. Click the Smart Object icon in the sub header.

2. Right-click the smart object and select More Details.

Unlink smart objects

Here's the workflow.

  1. From the right-hand toolbar, click the Smart Objects icon. Smart objects show in the pane.
  2. Click the smart object. An Unlink message pops up.
  3. To unlink, click Continue.

Re-link smart objects

  1. From the right-hand toolbar, click the Smart Objects icon. Smart objects show in the pane.
  2. Right-click the object or click the 3 dots icon, and select Bulk Apply.
  3. Click Apply to more screens.

When completed, you’ll see a confirmation screen like this one.
