Knowing who's viewing a playlist or deal room makes its insights far more useful. **Collect viewers email** asks viewers for their address, either as a gate they must pass or as a lighter, optional prompt.

### **Snapshot 📸**

**Applies to:** Playlists and deal rooms. The optional prompts (pop-up and banners) are available in deal rooms and Choose Your Own Adventure playlists.

**Location:** Playlist or deal room editor → **Settings** (gear icon in the top bar) → **Collect viewers email**

---

## **Choose how to ask**

1. Open the playlist or deal room in the editor.
2. Click the **gear icon** in the top bar to open **Settings**.
3. Turn on **Collect viewers email**. It starts on **Required**.
4. In deal rooms and Choose Your Own Adventure playlists, pick an option from the dropdown:

| Option | What viewers see |
| --- | --- |
| **Required** | Blocks the content until the viewer gives an address. The only option that can verify the address. |
| **Pop-up** | A card over the content that viewers can dismiss. Gets the most responses, but interrupts the most. |
| **Banner at the top** | One quiet line pinned above the content |
| **Banner at the bottom** | One quiet line pinned below the content |

5. Optionally, write your own message. The field is **Custom welcome message** for **Required**, and **What to ask** for the other options. Leave it empty to use the default wording.

Sales Hub, Customer Hub, and Content Hub playlists offer **Required** only.

---

## **Required gate options**

With **Required** selected, you can also turn on:

- **Email Verification**: viewers confirm their address through a link sent by email before they can view. See [**Control who can view a playlist or deal room**](/help/playlists/access-control).
- **Allow non-work domains (e.g. @gmail.com)**: without it, viewers must use a work email address.

---

## **What viewers see with the pop-up and banners**

- The content is readable behind the prompt. Viewers can type their email and click **Send**, or click **Not now**.
- Once a viewer submits or dismisses the prompt, it doesn't come back for that playlist or deal room in the same browser. A different device, a private window, or cleared browser data shows it again.
- Viewers Walnut already knows aren't asked, for example signed-in Walnut users, viewers who came through a link with their email in it, and viewers who already filled in a lead form.
- An email given this way identifies the viewer in Insights. It doesn't unlock anything: it doesn't count as passing a **Required** gate or a gated page.

## **FAQs**

---

**Why is the Collect viewers email toggle greyed out?**

Either your company enforces Email Verification for all content, or, in a deal room, some pages or the Mutual Action Plan are gated to specific email addresses. Gating needs verified emails, so remove those gates first.

---

**Can I use the pop-up and require a verified email at the same time?**

No. You choose one option at a time, and only **Required** can verify an address.

---

**Do viewers need a work email for the pop-up and banners?**

By default, yes. Personal addresses such as @gmail.com are accepted only when non-work domains are allowed for the playlist or deal room.
