## **About This Feature**

A **Deal Room template** is a reusable blueprint for a Deal Room. Instead of rebuilding the same structure for every opportunity, you build it once — intro video, core demos, pricing FAQs, a Mutual Action Plan — and create every new room from it.

There are two kinds of template in Walnut: **templates your team builds**, and **Fast Templates**, a gallery of ready-made templates curated by Walnut.

### **Snapshot 📸**

**Feature Status:** Add-On Feature (included with Interactive Deal Rooms)

**Role Access:** Admin, Editor, Presenter

**Location:** [Walnut Library](https://app.teamwalnut.com/home#) → **New** → **Deal room template**, or the **Save as template** button inside an existing Deal Room

---

## **Two Kinds of Template**

| | **Your team's templates** | **Fast Templates (curated by Walnut)** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who builds them | Anyone in your workspace with Admin, Editor, or Presenter access | Walnut |
| Who can use them | Your workspace only | Every Walnut customer with the add-on |
| Where they appear | The template picker when you create a Deal Room | The template gallery, when you create a Deal Room template |
| Can you edit them | Yes | You edit your own copy — the original is never changed |

Both produce the same thing: a fully editable Deal Room template that belongs to your workspace.

---

## **Create a Template**

### **Start from a Fast Template**

The fastest route. Walnut's curated gallery gives you a proven structure instead of a blank canvas.

1. In the **Walnut Library**, click **New** and select **Deal room template**.
2. The **template gallery** opens, showing curated Deal Room templates.
3. Select a template to see a **live preview** — this is the real, interactive room, not a screenshot.
4. Click **Use this template** to create your own editable copy, or **Start from scratch** to skip the gallery and begin with an empty room.

Your copy opens straight in the editor, pre-filled with realistic example content.

:::note[Example content and swap hints]

Content that came from the template is marked with an **Example** badge. Hover any example item to see a hint explaining what it's for and a pencil icon to replace it. The badge disappears as soon as you edit that item.

If you publish while example content is still in place, Walnut shows a **soft warning** telling you how many items are still from the template. It never blocks you — you can always publish as-is.

:::

### **Build a Template from Scratch**

1. In the **Walnut Library**, click **New** and select **Deal room template**.
2. Click **Start from scratch**.
3. Add your content by clicking a content placeholder and choosing an asset type — a file from the Media Library, a demo from your library, media from an external URL, or an embed code snippet.
4. Add more **pages** with the **plus icon** in the tab navigation bar.

Your work **saves automatically** as you build — there is no Save button to remember.

### **Save an Existing Deal Room as a Template**

Built a room that worked? Turn it into a template so the whole team can reuse it.

1. Open the Deal Room in the editor.
2. Click **Save as template** in the top-right corner.
3. Confirm in the dialog.

Walnut creates a **duplicate** and saves that as the template, so the original room stays connected to your current deal and keeps working exactly as before. You'll see a **Deal room template created** confirmation with a **Go edit** shortcut to open the new template.

:::note[Don't see the Save as template button?]

**Save as template** is only available on Deal Rooms that aren't tied to a CRM deal. If your workspace has Salesforce or HubSpot connected, build templates from the Library instead — **New** → **Deal room template**.

## **Control Who Can See Your Template**

Deal Room templates use the same sharing model as every other Walnut asset — the **Collaborators** setting. There is no separate "make this template public" control.

| Setting | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Only collaborators can access** | Private. Only you and the people you explicitly add can see and use the template. |
| **Everyone at {your company} can access** | Shared. Anyone in your workspace can pick this template when creating a Deal Room. |

**To change it:** open the template, click **Collaborators**, and choose the access level.

**Defaults by role:**

- Templates created by **Admins** and **Editors** are typically shared workspace-wide — these are your enablement-approved standards.
- Templates created by **Presenters** start as **collaborators-only**, so sellers can build and refine their own structure without publishing it to the whole team.

:::note

Sharing is always within your own workspace. You can't publish a template to other Walnut customers — cross-company templates are the Fast Templates gallery, which Walnut authors.

## **Create a Deal Room from a Template**

**With a CRM connected —** go to **Deals**, select an Opportunity or Deal, click **Create a deal room**, then pick your template.

**Without a CRM —** create the room straight from the Library. See [**Create a deal room without an opportunity**](/help/deal-rooms/create-without-opportunity).

In the template picker, search by name, then click **Use this template**. To skip templates entirely, choose **Create a deal room from scratch**.

---

## **What a New Deal Room Inherits**

When you create a Deal Room from a template, it copies:

- All content, sections, and pages
- Branding and layout settings
- **Show/Hide page visibility** — hidden pages stay hidden
- The Mutual Action Plan structure, with task completion reset so the new room starts clean

Once created, the Deal Room is **completely independent**. Editing the template later never changes rooms already created from it.

---

## **Working with Templates**

**Templates are labelled.** A template shows a non-clickable **Template** pill in the editor header, so you always know whether you're editing the blueprint or a live room.

**Templates have no share link.** There's no **Get link** button on a template — you share the Deal Rooms you create from it, not the template itself.

**Everything autosaves.** Deal Rooms and Deal Room templates both save automatically in the background as you work.

**Abandoned starts clean themselves up.** If you open a template from the gallery and leave without editing anything, Walnut archives the untouched copy so your library doesn't fill with empty drafts.

---

## **FAQs**

---

**If I edit a template, will it change Deal Rooms already created from it?**

No. Every Deal Room becomes independent the moment it's created. Template edits only affect rooms created *after* the change.

---

**Who can create Deal Room templates?**

Admins, Editors, and Presenters. Presenters' templates are private by default.

---

**Why can't I see the Save as template button?**

It only appears on Deal Rooms that aren't connected to a CRM deal. If Salesforce or HubSpot is connected to your workspace, create templates from the Library instead.

---

**Can I make my personal template available to my whole team?**

Yes. Open the template, click **Collaborators**, and switch access to **Everyone at {your company} can access**.

---

**Can I edit a Fast Template?**

You edit your copy of it. Selecting a Fast Template creates a fully editable copy in your workspace — the curated original is never modified, and Walnut's later updates to it never change your copy.

---

**Can I share a template with a different Walnut customer?**

No. Template sharing is limited to your own workspace.

<!-- REVIEWER NOTES — delete before publishing

Screenshots still needed:
1. New → "Deal room template" menu item in the Library
2. The Fast Templates gallery with the live preview pane, "Use this template" and "Start from scratch"
3. The "Example" badge + hover hint on template content
4. The pre-publish "items still from the template" warning
5. "Save as template" button + its confirmation dialog
6. The Collaborators access dropdown showing both options
7. The non-clickable "Template" pill in the editor header

Facts to confirm against production before promoting:
- The exact conditions that hide "Save as template" (code shows: no CRM integration AND no connected deal AND not already a template). Worth a product check — this reads like it could be an unintended restriction for CRM-connected workspaces.
- Exact wording of the Collaborators options and the confirmation dialog copy.
